Alliance Schools Come Together for Annual Science Competition

Posted 19th May 2026

Fourteen Red Kite Alliance secondary schools came together for the Annual Science Competition, celebrating collaboration, creativity and a shared commitment to inspiring future scientists.

Teams of Year 7 students competed for the coveted Golden Microscope in a series of biology, chemistry and physics challenges planned and delivered by Red Kite Teacher Training science trainees. The event gave trainees valuable experience leading learning beyond the classroom while creating an exciting day of scientific discovery for students.

Activities included designing organisms adapted to different environments, tackling forensic chemistry investigations and building paper bridges capable of supporting weight. The physics challenge was supported through the Alliance’s partnership with the Ogden Trust, helping to promote physics across Alliance schools. Quiz rounds throughout the day added further energy and competition.

Allerton Grange School were crowned overall winners, with Temple Learning Academy finishing as close runners-up. Subject awards went to South Craven for biology, Crawshaw Academy for chemistry and Ilkley Grammar School for physics.
